This article spoke about a new training program for officers in crisis situations. This program is teaching officers to fully assess situations, in which they may have to use force, to get the most desirable outcome. Unfortunately, the article did not give much detail on what this training looks like, but it sounds like a positive thing for the Wichita police force. We keep hearing stories about police officer misuse of force, and this seems like an excellent way to improve their training. Many officers only have basic de-escalation training, and many times fail to fully assess the situation leading to someone getting injured. This new training sounds like it will teach officers to think more before they act in a crisis situation. It will be interesting to see if this new training will have a significant impact.
